I’ve always wanted to visit South Korea. So when we decided to travel around Asia after our wedding, I know I just could not let that opportunity pass, I need to have a glimpse of Seoul. Although our main destinations were Cambodia and Japan, I just had to squeeze in that very short Seoul itinerary somewhere in between, even if it means being there just for a day. We were in Seoul for literally 20 hours that it’s almost like a very long layover, except that we had to pay for airfares. Here’s how we winged our first trip to Seoul.
Our flight arrived at Incheon International Airport around 4 AM. The first thing that we did was get a portable wifi and exchange our money to local currency, $1=₩1000 roughly. Since we had an early start, most of the places we wanted to visit were still closed. So we decided to take a bus to Bukchon Hanok Village. It’s open 24/7 and we were sure to beat the crowd, so it was a win-win situation for us.
After strolling and taking tons of pictures around the village, we took a train to a close by tourist spot, the Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Gyeongbokgung Palace was really huge that it would take us hours to go around the whole place, so we then decided to walk our way to Insa-dong, where we ate the best bulgogi I ever had.
After eating and shopping at Insa-dong, we took a cab to our next destination, the Namsam Tower. You can definitely take a train and walk to Namsam, but since we didn’t have that much time to spare, we wanted to take the fastest route and get there as soon as we can. The cab accepted credit card payment so that really worked for us since we were running out of cash after shopping at Insa-dong.
There’s a cable car that takes you to the tower and usually the wait is not that bad.
We can’t leave Seoul without going to Myeongdong to find good eats and get Korean beauty products (they give out a lot of free stuff too!).
We had so much fun and before we realized it, it was already time for us to head back to the airport and catch our flight. It was short and sweet but I have all the reasons to go back to Korea again.
