UNESCO World Heritage Site – Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Kiyomizudera, literally “Pure Water Temple”, is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It is an independent Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto.

It is a very nice temple but be prepared with some walking to do, on upslopes. The streets leading to the temple were lined with shops selling souvenirs and kyoto’s special sweets and foods.

FUN FACT: Not a single nail was used for the construction of the verandah at the Main Hall! How amazing is that?
