I was at one of my closest friends’ engagement party last night and I was randomly asked “how did you know that he is already the right one for you?” I paused and had to think about it for a moment.
I guess for me, the right person doesn’t come just how we’d expect them to. Some would say that you know that the person is right for you if they share the same values and interests with you, or if they can make you feel happy all the time, even by just laying down and doing nothing, or if they are willing to do everything for you. I used to think those are the things that I had to look for when I’m in a relationship. But honestly, you just don’t go looking for it, there is no such person as the right one, you make them the right one. You choose them.
I’ve been to couple of relationships. Each time I felt like it’s the right one. Cause that’s how it works, you get blinded by your feelings. The only difference that I can see clearly now is that I decided for this relationship with my fiancé to last. I used to have the mentality that if it’s not gonna work then it’s not meant. But now, I always think that if something’s wrong, we have to work it out. I guess it’s a sense of maturity that develops in time. When something is broken, you don’t just replace it, you fix it. And with that in mind, you choose the person to be the right one for you. The one whom you are willing to compromise with. Someone who sees his future with you and you see him in yours too. You may not always see each other eye to eye but that doesn’t mean that it will not work out. And if there is something that you don’t like about your partner and you are thinking that it’s okay because they will change, NO. They will NEVER change. They might try, say a week or two, but they will always go back to how they were. And if you can still love them despite all the things that you hate about them, then your relationship will last.
